Letting it Go: The Newsletter

Whew! Things have been INSANE around here so it make sense as to why I haven't been blogging lately. It makes me sad, to be honest with you. I miss writing. This blog was meant to be a back-up plan since school, work, and life has caused me to have to loosen my grip on my writing career. Let's face it, having two careers flourishing is nearly impossible. Let me dive into what's been going on lately and the meaning behind the title of this post.

Life Update:

It's the end of May which means school just got out (on the 22nd), and the month leading up to the last day had me working every day. I was so grateful for the work, and the check I get just in time for my Florida vacation will be really helpful. The kids are officially out of school until September 8th, 2026. Me? I'm still in grad school working on my 3rd class before student teaching. I'll be in school through the summer and when the kids go back to school September 8th, I'll begin my student teaching on the same day.

Writing Update:

I haven't gotten to write much since we went to WI to the Great Wolf Lodge in April for Spring Break. Maggie and James are still waiting for me to pick up where I left off in their story. My military memoir is still with the early reader who will be writing the forward, and Shattered Yesterdays hasn't even been looked at. Never to fret! With it being summer vacation, I have booked a solo writing retreat for July where I plan to do only writing (all three projects: memoir publishing prep, Shattered Yesterdays touch-ups, and Maggie and James's story). By July I'll be finished with the last big class and working on my final two courses. The writing retreat will be the perfect breather before student teaching. And hey, maybe I'll even have something to publish in 2027.

Point of the Title:

As you all know I've been working behind the scenes. While I haven't exactly been writing, I have been doing some deep thinking on my author brand and what I want to carry into 2027. I believe I've made the final decision on the newsletter. I personally think the only people who care about a newsletter is other writers and those in publishing pushing you to get one. I honestly don't think readers care one way or another. With social media, I think newsletters are a little pointless. I do understand how people say "newsletters are good because it's the only thing you own if the service you're using goes under and social media goes down, and etc." I can see the benefit of that, but I'm impatient and I don't feel like my readers at this time care about a newsletter. Will I say never to a newsletter? No. Things change and I'm willing to as well. However, at this time and anytime in the near future, newsletters are a waste of my time and I will be removing that feature from my website. That said, if you're reading this and you're a reader and want to prove me wrong? Visit the site and sign up...I'll keep it up until I relaunch everything in 2027. But, if there's no movement...it'll be going away.

That's about all I have for now. Next time I'll share a list of Things I Don't Want Anymore...
